Anyone segmenting chip buyers by use case vs. just company size?

Trying to figure out if segmenting by application (automotive, AI, consumer) gives better insights than the usual firmographic stuff. Has anyone tested both approaches?

Yes, and use-case segmentation almost always wins for chips specifically — company size tells you almost nothing about purchasing behavior when a $10B company buys both commodity MCUs and bleeding-edge AI accelerators. We layered application vertical on top of firmographics last year for a semiconductor client and the application split explained 3x more variance in vendor preference. Start with end-market (auto, data center, consumer) as your primary cut, then use company size as a secondary filter.
