How do defense contractors usually research buyer intent for new drone tech?

Most contractors I've worked with lean heavily on SAM.gov and USASpending to track procurement patterns, combined with direct interviews with program officers when they can get access. Trade shows like AUVSI XPONENTIAL are also goldmines for gauging where acquisition priorities are heading. If you can get a government relations contact in the loop, that intel is way more useful than any secondary research.
