How do small farmers actually decide which seed brand to buy?

Working on a project for an ag client and trying to figure out what really drives purchase decisions at the farm level. Is it reps, word of mouth, or something else?

From what I've seen in ag research, trusted neighbors and local co-op staff are usually the #1 influence — farmers really don't trust marketing. Reps matter too, but only once there's an existing relationship. I'd run some in-depth interviews with 8-10 farmers before any survey work, because the real drivers often come out in conversation, not checkboxes.
