How do you estimate demand for a new chip product before launch?

Working on a market sizing project for a client in the semiconductor space and not sure where to start. Anyone have a go-to approach for this?

For semi, I usually start with a top-down TAM using IDC or Gartner data to anchor the size, then layer in bottom-up validation by talking directly to 10-15 procurement leads or design engineers at target OEMs. Design win pipeline from your client's sales team is gold here — it's often the most honest signal of near-term demand before any public data exists.
