Anyone have a good way to test packaging design with shoppers?

We're redesigning a product's packaging and want real feedback before we commit. Not sure if we should do focus groups or something more in-store.

Shelf intercept tests work really well for this — catch shoppers right at the fixture and show them 2-3 packaging options in context. If in-store feels too complex, an online shelf simulation tool like Ace or Qualtrics conjoint can get you solid data from 200-300 respondents pretty quickly. Focus groups are fine for *why* but they won't tell you what people actually grab.
