Anyone segmented buyers for heavy equipment rentals vs purchases before?

Trying to figure out what drives the rent vs buy decision for construction machinery. Not sure if this is better as a survey or a few in-depth interviews.

Done this for a mid-size equipment dealer last year — the rent vs. buy decision usually comes down to 3-4 key drivers: project duration, utilization rate, capital constraints, and maintenance burden. I'd actually start with 6-8 in-depth interviews with project managers and CFOs separately, since they often have conflicting priorities. Once you've got those themes, a survey with ~150-200 respondents can validate and size the segments nicely.
