Best way to gauge demand for new industrial equipment in a niche market?

Working on sizing the market for a pretty specialized piece of machinery and struggling to find good data. Wondering if surveys even work here or if there's a better approach.

For niche industrial equipment, surveys alone usually fall flat — the audience is too small and busy to respond. I'd focus on dealer/distributor interviews and trade association data first, then layer in LinkedIn outreach to maintenance/ops managers for maybe 15-20 depth interviews. Patent filings and import/export data from sources like Panjiva can also help you triangulate unit volumes when published data doesn't exist.
