Best way to segment customers in the residential solar market?

Working on a segmentation project for a solar panel brand and not sure where to start. Is there a standard approach people use for this space?

For residential solar, I'd start with a needs-based segmentation combining demographics (homeowner status, income $75k+, roof ownership) with psychographics around environmental values vs. cost savings motivation — those two drivers split the market pretty cleanly. Run a cluster analysis on survey data with those variables and you'll usually land on 4-5 actionable segments. Stage of the buyer journey also matters a lot here since 'just browsing' vs. 'ready to quote' requires totally different messaging.
