What's a good way to track energy switching behavior in residential customers?

We're trying to understand why people switch from traditional utilities to solar or green energy plans. Not sure if surveys are enough or if we need something more qualitative.

Surveys alone usually miss the 'real' reason people switch — they'll say price but it's often a neighbor's recommendation or a bill shock moment. I'd pair a short quant survey (10-15 questions, 200+ respondents) with 6-8 in-depth interviews to catch those emotional triggers. Journey mapping workshops with recent switchers can also be gold for this kind of behavior.
