Anyone used ethnographic research in a clinical setting before?

Trying to understand how nurses actually use patient monitoring software day-to-day. Wondering if in-person observation is even feasible given hospital access issues.

Yes, done this exact thing in a hospital setting! Access is tough but totally doable — we partnered with a nurse educator as our internal champion, which smoothed out the IRB and access hurdles significantly. Shadow sessions of even 2-3 hours per nurse gave us way richer insights than any survey. If full observation isn't feasible, contextual inquiry (shorter, task-focused observation) is a solid middle ground.
