Best way to survey farmers without them bouncing immediately?

We're running a study on fertilizer buying habits but response rates are terrible. Wondering if anyone has cracked how to get actual farmers to complete a survey.

Biggest thing we found: keep it under 5 minutes and lead with something relevant to *them* — like 'help us understand what's actually driving input costs this season.' Farmers are busy and skeptical of outside research, so framing matters a lot. Also, phone-based surveys through ag co-ops or local extension offices tend to outperform generic email blasts by a wide margin.
