How are brands testing sustainable packaging with real shoppers?

Working on a project for a CPG client and need to understand how consumers actually respond to eco-friendly packaging at the shelf. Curious what methods others have used.

A few approaches I've seen work well: shelf intercept studies where shoppers handle actual prototypes, and simulated shelf tests using tools like Ace Metrix or Zappi to measure attention and purchase intent at scale. One client also ran a small A/B test on Amazon with real SKUs — surprisingly fast signal on conversion lift. What's your timeline? That usually dictates which route makes sense.
