How do you track why people switch car brands after a purchase?

Trying to figure out the best way to capture post-purchase regret or brand switching in automotive. Not sure if surveys work here or if we need something more qualitative.

Both work but at different stages — a short survey (NPS + open-end) around 6-12 months post-purchase catches early regret signals, then follow up qualitatively with switchers you flag from that. JD Power's ownership studies are worth benchmarking against if you haven't already. The key is catching people before they've fully rationalized the decision, so timing really matters here.
