Surveys work great for the quantitative stuff — cost concerns, awareness, timeline — but you'll miss the emotional barriers without at least a few focus groups or in-depth interviews. I'd run a quick 10-question survey on something like Typeform or SurveyMonkey (aim for 200+ homeowners) to spot the big themes, then do 6-8 IDIs to dig into the 'why.' Upfront cost anxiety and roof ownership confusion tend to be the hidden blockers nobody admits to in a survey.
