How do you research consumer attitudes toward sustainable packaging?

Working on a project for a food brand trying to go eco-friendly. Not sure if surveys are enough or if we need something more qualitative.

Surveys are a good start but they often overstate how much people actually care about sustainability — stated vs. revealed preference gap is real. I'd pair a quick quant survey (400+ respondents) with focus groups or even in-store intercepts to watch how people actually react to the packaging in the moment. Shelf tests or conjoint analysis are also great for seeing how eco-friendly claims trade off against price and convenience for food specifically.
