How do you segment customers for residential solar adoption studies?

Working on a project around rooftop solar and not sure how to slice the audience. Is it mostly demographic or do psychographics matter more here?

Both matter, but psychographics tend to be stronger predictors for solar. We typically segment on home ownership status and roof tenure first (demographics as qualifiers), then layer in attitudes around environmental values and energy independence using something like VALS or a custom attitudinal battery. Also worth cutting by bill size — households paying $150+/month are a totally different conversation than lower-usage customers.
