How do you segment patients vs. caregivers in healthcare surveys?

Working on a study for a medical device client and not sure whether to treat caregivers as a separate segment or just lump them in with patients. Anyone dealt with this before?

Definitely segment them separately — their decision drivers and pain points are really different. We typically use a screener question upfront to split them (primary user of the device vs. primary caregiver), then run separate conjoint or needs-based analysis for each group. Lumping them together will muddy your data, especially if caregivers are the purchase decision-makers but patients are the end users.
